The University

Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne is the second oldest university in Australia and a premier institution, which benchmarks itself against top international universities. As a Melbourne student, your learning experience is enhanced by access to internationally recognised researchers and teachers. The University has a proud reputation for producing distinguished graduates who contribute to the professions, industry and academia throughout Australia and the world.

The Parkville campus is on 22.5 hectares in the cosmopolitan inner-city suburb of Carlton, a short walk from the city of Melbourne and close to the Queen Victoria Market. There is a vast array of social, recreational and cultural clubs and activities offered in an attractive, safe environment. The Student Union is a point of contact for students from diverse disciplines and cultures.

Many students live on or near the campus, which is ideal for international students as it gives you the opportunity to get to know the city and the campus. The University's Student Housing Services can help you with information about student accommodation.
